BASE SALARY: $45,000 - $60,000

As a Small Business Administration (SBA) Certified Development Company (CDC), we partner with lenders throughout the state to provide long-term, lower-rate financing for real estate development projects, assisting job growth, and aiding in business expansion.


Summary of Duties

The purpose of the role is to expand the financial resources of IBFS by marketing the SBA 504 loan program and other lending opportunities. You will be responsible for working directly with banks, business service organizations, associations, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, professional service firms, lending organizations or marketplaces, and others to secure client referrals and acquire loans customers. Additionally, you will help guide our clients through the process from application to funding and deliver a positive experience.


You must be self-motivated, results-oriented with a positive outlook and clear focus on high-quality customer support; possess excellent time management skills; be a credible source of information, and comfortable dealing with a broad spectrum of business industries and people. 


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Foster relationships throughout Central Illinois in order to position IBFS as premier nonprofit lending partner.

  • Participate in lending events and programs in support of the IBFS mission.

  • Generate loan volume through building relationships with the community, partner organizations, bankers, accountants, and other collaborations with small business support organizations.

  • Analyze loan requests based on need, impact, and financial viability.

  • Manage the loan origination process, gather customer data, and input to appropriate software programs.

  • Serve as primary contact with lenders and borrowers involved in the loan project.

  • Monitor the progress of each pipeline loan and project status; ensuring prudent action is taken to prepare for a timely funding process.

  • Collaborate with IBFS team members to 1) ensure each loan project’s program eligibility, 2) analyze each customer’s financial condition, 3) underwrite loans, and 4) ensure completeness of loan application information.

  • Update lead management tools weekly with relevant pipeline project progress notes.

  • Provide guidance on portfolio concentration for organization’s level of risk tolerance.

  • Audit loan files prior to closing processes.

  • Participate in major department projects and take an active role in cross-functional teams to assist in driving quality improvements, processes, and initiatives.

  • Assist with audits, annual reporting, and periodic reviews as requested by President & CEO.

You will have a flexible schedule; however, some weekend and non-traditional work schedule hours including overnight travel is expected. Attendance of conferences and/or training classes in Illinois and other states is expected for professional development purposes.


Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance, or accounting is preferred. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of professional experience in small business lending, commercial real estate, or serving in a prior economic development role. Past demonstrated success in: sales; account management; ability to meet and exceed assigned objectives; strong communication skills; excellent presentation skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and financial tools such as QuickBooks, and sales management database systems.
